It is our pleasure to share the Manual of Awards (2026-27) of CTEF Kerala, featuring comprehensive information on our 17 esteemed awards. This manual serves as a guide to the awards instituted by CTEF Kerala, highlighting our commitment to recognising excellence and promoting talent.
As we strive for a world where everyone has opportunities to reach their full potential, we acknowledge the hard work, dedication and passion of teacher educators who make a positive impact in the teacher education field. Our awards aim to celebrate these unsung heroes who inspire others to follow their footsteps and foster a culture of excellence. The accomplished Teacher educators from Colleges of Teacher Education, Departments of Education, SCERT, DIETs and TEIs, who are members of CTEF Kerala, are eligible to apply for these coveted awards.
Within this manual you will find detailed information on our award categories, eligibility criteria, selection processes and guidelines for nomination and application. We have designed this manual to be user-friendly and accessible, ensuring seamless experience for all participants.

Eligibility
- Award Recipient waiting period
To ensure a fair and competitive selection process, the applicants who have previously received an award from CTEF must wait for a minimum of three years before becoming eligible to apply again. This mandatory waiting period begins from the date of their previous award.
- Conflict of interest policy
To maintain the integrity and impartiality of the award selection process, members of the award committee are ineligible to apply for the award during their tenure.
- Notification of No Award
If the entries do not meet our criteria under any one of the categories, that application will not be entertained for the concerned category. But this will not be a disqualification for applying another award for the same applicant..
- Submission of documents
Every criterion filled up by the applicant shall be followed by supporting documents. It must be sent through email and by post to the Gen. Secretary before the deadline. Assessment will be based on the hardcopies submitted by the applicant.
- Number of application to be submitted by each candidate
Each applicant is eligible to submit application for up to three awards, and the selection committee will meticulously evaluate each submission, selecting the most exceptional one with highest score. If you emerge as the top contender, we will proudly declare you the award winner.
To ensure a successful application, kindly submit Part A and Part B, along with three separate application forms and a single set of supporting documents..
- Introduction of new awards
The well-wishers who wish to introduce an award through CTEF are to submit their proposals to the Chairman during the previous year’s General body meeting. This allows the committee sufficient time to deliberate and discuss the viability of the award before implementation.
8. Eligibility requirements
All the applicants must be a Life member of CTEF .If you have a membership card kindly submit the photostat copy of the certificate along with the application.
9. Annual Convention Registration
*Award applicants should register in the respective year’s annual convention before applying the award and pin the receipt with the application.
Amendments in the Manual
2024-2025
The Award Committee 2024-25 put forth a few additional criteria to supplement the existing guidelines and to enhance the existing evaluation process. The executive meeting conducted on 29-02-2025 unanimously agreed the following criteria under consideration. 2025-26 awards onwards these criteria will be come in to effect.
7. Dr. K Soman Memorial Award for Teacher Educator of the Year
Currently, many deserving teacher educators do not apply for the award. To ensure that deserving candidates are identified and considered, the selection process is proposed to be revised from next year onwards.
Under the revised procedure, the Selection Committee will initially identify three or four expert teacher educators who, based on their academic and professional contributions, are considered eligible for the Dr. K Soman Memorial Award. These shortlisted candidates will then be invited to submit detailed information and supporting documents regarding their academic and professional achievements.
The submitted achievements will be evaluated by the Selection Committee based on predetermined criteria. Following a comparative assessment of the shortlisted candidates, the candidate securing the highest overall score will be declared the recipient of the Dr.K Soman Memorial Award.
2026- 2027
The Executive Meeting held on 04-05-2026 unanimously resolved to introduce the following two awards under the Awards category with effect from the year 2026. These awards will come into effect starting from the Silver Jubilee Convention 2027 onwards.
1.Pinnacle leadership award for Acclaimed teacher Educator
2. K Muthukumaran Memorial award for Translational Research in Education
INSTRUCTIONS
The award application is divided into two distinct components: Part A and Part B Part A : Applicant Profile( 25 marks) ( Applicable to all Award categories except No.1, 3,12,13,15,16)
In this introductory section, applicants will provide the essential details such as their name, age, date of birth, designation, address of communication, Ph. No., email id, Educational qualifications, post held etc. Also they will furnish the details of their involvement in CTEF activities. This foundational information serves as the groundwork for the award application accounting for 25% of the total score.
Part B –Specific Criteria ( 75 marks) ( Applicable to all Award categories except No.1, 3,12,13,15,16)
This comprehensive section delves in to the heart of the award, evaluating the applicant’s achievements and contributions relevant to the specific award. With a maximum score of 75, this section carries significant weight, accounting for 75%of the total score.
To proceed, applicants must first complete the mandatory Part A , providing a brief overview of their background. Then they will advance to Part B ,where they will address the specific criteria tailored to their chosen award.
Every criterion filled up by the applicant shall be followed by supporting documents.
N. B. In the event of a tie in marks, the following criteria will be utilized to break the deadlock :
- Participation and involvement in CTEF Kerala activities: The applicant who has demonstrated the highest level of active participation and involvement in CTEF activities and initiatives will be given preference.
- Recognitions: The applicant who has received the recognitions at international, national or state levels other than from CTEF will be prioritized.

- Prof. (Dr) K Sivadasan Pillai Memorial Award for Academic Excellence
In reverence to the enduring legacy of a visionary par excellence, the late Prof Dr K Sivadasan Pillai, the CTEF Kerala proudly instituted this prestigious award. This award is the only one of its kind where selection is based solely on nomination, making it a truly unique and exclusive honour. Each year the award committee meticulously nominates a single exemplary teacher educator/visionary to receive this prestigious award ensuring that the legacy of Prof. K Sivadasan Pillai lives on through this recognition.
The nominee must be a teacher/teacher educator/ visionary/ thought leader /or champion of education who has made significant contributions to the educational field leaving a lasting impression on the lives of his students and peers alike. He/ She must be a mastermind who has consistently demonstrated a remarkable commitment to academic distinction and his/her dedication and passion for Teaching/Administration/Research may have left an indelible mark on the academic community.
The award comprises of a cash prize of Rs.10000/- and a beautifully crafted citation which highlights the recipient’s remarkable accomplishments in his professional field.
The amount for this esteemed award is being collected every year from educators and researchers, many of whom had the privilege of being mentored by or associated with the illustrious Prof. Dr K Sivadasan Pillai.
- Prof. (Dr) A Sukumaran Nair Memorial National Award for Pedagogic Brilliance
In recognition of the renowned and pioneering teacher late Prof. Dr A Sukumaran Nair, the Former Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University AND Former Patron, the CTEF Kerala chapter proudly introduces this prestigious Award for Pedagogic Brilliance. Prof Nair was a great teacher educator, researcher and administrator and his enduring presence continues to inspire the teaching community through this esteemed award. Every year the award committee meticulously selects a young, dynamic, vibrant, competent, and committed Teacher / Teacher educator to receive this prestigious award.
The award consists of a cash prize of Rs.10000/- and a beautifully crafted plaque symbolising the outstanding achievement. The amount for this esteemed award is sponsored by the Indian Society for the Advancement of Higher Education (INSOHED), founded in 1996 by Prof. Dr A Sukumaran Nair himself.
- Eligibility Criteria
The award is to encourage young and creative teaching talents who are typically under 45 years of age. Applicants must be permanent teachers in Teacher Education Colleges (Govt., Aided or Unaided Colleges ), DIETs, TTIs with an experience of teaching for at least 3 years. Also the applicant must be a life member of CTEF Kerala (Since this is a newly established award, unlike other awards, non-members are eligible to take up membership specifically for the purpose of applying for this award. This is a National Award and hence teacher educators outside Kerala are also eligible to apply provided they are members of their concerned State CTEF Chapters. If they are selected in the screening process, they must come and appear for the interview physically at the Convention venue.
Selection
The applicant is required to submit a good quality video of their teaching of any topic of their interest at any level, which will reveal their uniqueness and creative pedagogy. The duration of the video may be limited to 12 minutes. There is no standard format for the video, the applicant may choose a format that will enable the selection committee to gauge his/her pedagogic brilliance. Video may be shot with the teacher in the frame, showing the students. Applicants may also submit a short note highlighting the uniqueness and creativity of their teaching along with the video. Soft copy along with the note must be sent to the Award e mail and hard copy of the application with video and all the details may be sent to the General Secretary CTEF Kerala chapter before the deadline with the conference registration screen shot.
After first level of the evaluation of the videos, the selection committee will shortlist candidates who may be required to undergo a live teaching session of 15 minutes offline and an interview later. The candidate can make use of any type of learning aids which will support his teaching online and offline.
The evaluation of this award will be holistic and will consider the pedagogic brilliance of the candidate as demonstrated in the video or in the subsequent live teaching session in front of the students and the scores of interview and other documents.
Scores allotted for each component : Teaching – 60 marks Creative documents – 20marks

- Supporting materials:
- The original application : A copy of the application form with other documents the candidate submit, will likely be the basis for the interview.
The documents would be :
- A detailed description of candidate’s contributions: A brief note outlining the candidate’s unique contributions to education.
- Personal and professional documents:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume: An updated CV highlighting the candidate’s educational background, professional experience, publications, and awards or recognitions etc..
- Portfolio of work: This is the most crucial part. A comprehensive collection of materials that demonstrate candidate’s teaching methods, impact, and innovation /creativity. This might include:
- Evidence of teaching excellence/ innovative practices:
- Personal and professional documents:
Teaching manual/ New teaching techniques or strategies developed by the candidate/Other resources used in teaching/Reports or articles written on candidate’s pedagogical innovations etc.
- Letter of Recommendation
Letter of Recommendation or counter signature proof from the head / superior of the institution ( preferably in the insitution’s letter head) showing the proof of date of birth and experience.
The interview will likely focus on the materials submitted.
3. Pinnacle leadership award for Acclaimed Teacher Educator
This prestigious award is sponsored by Dr. Grace Annie Mathews, Former Chairman of CTEF Kerala, in cherished memory of her beloved husband, Late Dr. A. J. Joshua, Retired Joint Director, Department of Animal Husbandry, Kerala.
The award is presented to a veteran teacher educator above the age of 50 (In service or retired)who has made remarkable contributions to the field of teacher education through exemplary leadership, academic excellence, and innovative educational initiatives.
The award comprises a beautifully crafted citation and a certificate, reflecting the outstanding achievements and distinguished contributions of the awardee.
This is the second award instituted by CTEF Kerala through nomination process to recognize excellence in the field of teacher education. The nomination for the award shall be undertaken annually by the Award Committee after obtaining comprehensive feedback of distinguished teacher educators across the state and carefully evaluating the most deserving candidate. One of the key criteria for this award is that the nominee should be an active member of CTEF Kerala.
- Dr. K Soman Memorial Award for Teacher Educator of the Year
This prestigious award is distributed in reverence to the enduring legacy of Dr K Soman, a stalwart in the field of teacher education, who spearheaded the Dept. of Education, University of Calicut and mentored teacher educators across the Govt. Colleges of Teacher education in Kerala, leaving an indelible mark on the academic landscape of the 20th century final quarter and initial quarter of 21 st century in Kerala.
Every year this prestigious award honours the exceptional contributions of a remarkable senior teacher educator who is still in service either in the Colleges of Teacher Education or in the different Departments of education in Kerala.
A senior teacher educator with atleast a decade of dedicated teaching experience and proven track record of excellence in the teacher education area is considered for this award.Their exceptional skills in teaching/ serving as principalship, administratorship, headship and research guideship might have set a high standard for excellence which would inspire others to follow their footsteps.
This award has been sponsored by the family members of Dr K Soman.
The award comprises of a cash prize of Rs 5000/-, an artfully composed citation which highlights his/her remarkable accomplishments and a certificate.

This prestigious award recognises an exceptional administrator who demonstrates unwavering dedication, visionary leadership and a commitment to excellence in his/her role. With a minimum of three years of experience in administrative position such as Principal, Head in Govt./Aided/ Unaided Colleges of Teacher Education or Departments of Education in any University in Kerala.
This award has been sponsored by Dr B Suresh, Former Principal of Govt. College of Teacher Education, Thiruvananthapuram.
The award comprises of an exquisitely designed citation which highlights his/her remarkable accomplishments and a certificate.

This prestigious accolade is reserved for a vibrant young teacher educator who has been a beacon of inspiration, igniting a passion for learning in students. He not only demonstrates excellence in teaching skills, innovative approaches and passion for research, but also showcases enthusiasm in various extra curricular activities. Through this award we honour the remarkable contributions of a young teacher educator who shapes the future of students with a vision, creativity, and unwavering commitment.
This award has been sponsored by Dr Sarat Chandra Raj, Former Chairman CTEF Kerala under the Vijhnan International Foundation.
The award comprises of a skilfully created citation which highlights the recipient’s remarkable accomplishments in the concerned field and a certificate.

The award has been sponsored by Prof. Dr.Jesa M, Former Professor in Farook Training College, Kozhikode for her beloved father late Sri Muthukumaran, a High school Headmaster and a close associate of Prof. K Sivadasan Pillai.
The award shall comprise a cash prize of ₹5,000 (Rupees Five Thousand only), a citation, and a certificate. The cash prize shall beequally shared between the research supervisor and the research scholar. The citation and certificate shall be presented in recognition of the research work
1.Eligibility
Research guides and research scholars associated with recognised universities, colleges, research institutions or other educational/research organisations at doctoral /post doctoral level/Projects funded by state, national, international recognised agencies /may submit papers for consideration.
The submitted work should represent original research undertaken by the applicant and should have clear relevance to education, educational policy, institutional practice, teaching-learning, administration, teacher education, assessment, inclusion or other significant areas of educational development.
2. Nature of Research Eligible for Consideration
Research acquires greater social and educational significance when evidence generated through systematic inquiry contributes to better decisions, informs policy, improves institutional practices or brings about meaningful change in the lives of learners, teachers and educational communities.
Researchers are therefore encouraged to submit work that demonstrates a clear and credible connection between knowledge generation and educational transformation.
Preference will be given to research that demonstrates one or both of the following:
a. Policy-oriented research: Researches whose findings have contributed to, informed or have the potential to substantially inform educational policies, programmes, guidelines or institutional decisions.
b. Research translated into practice : Research in which the findings have already been implemented, adopted, adapted or accepted for practical application by an educational institution, government department, agency, professional body or other recognised organisation

3.Documentary Evidence
Applicants must submit documentary evidence to substantiate claims regarding the application, acceptance or impact of their research.
Such evidence may include, wherever applicable:
Official letters from universities, colleges, schools, government departments or educational agencies confirming adoption or implementation of the research findings.
Government or institutional orders, circulars, guidelines or policy documents referring to or incorporating the findings.
Minutes or resolutions of competent institutional bodies approving implementation.
Official reports documenting implementation or outcomes.
Evidence of a programme, intervention, model, framework, curriculum, policy or practice developed or modified on the basis of the research.
Letters from competent authorities describing the use or impact of the research findings.
Published policy documents or institutional documents in which the research is appropriately acknowledged.
Any other authentic documentary evidence establishing the transition of research findings into policy or practice.
4. Submission Requirements
Each submission should contain:
1. Title of the research paper.
2. Name, designation and institutional affiliation of the applicant.
3. Contact details.
4. Brief profile of the researcher.
5. Abstract of the research.
6. Full research paper.
7. Statement explaining the significance and originality of the research.
8. A separate statement clearly describing how the research findings have contributed to policy or practice.
9.Documentary evidence supporting such claims.
10. Details of institutions/agencies where the findings have been accepted, implemented or utilised, wherever applicable.
11. Declaration of originality and authenticity of the work.
Applicants can submit more than one paper for consideration for the Award.
5. Evaluation Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated by an expert committee constituted by the Organisation.
The evaluation may take into consideration:
- Originality and scholarly quality of the research.
- Relevance and significance of the research problem.
- Soundness of methodology.
- Quality and credibility of evidence.
- Significance of the findings.
- Relevance to educational policy and/or practice.
- Evidence of acceptance, adoption or implementation.
- Extent and quality of educational impact.
- Potential for wider application or replication.
- Overall contribution to the advancement of education.
Special weightage may be accorded to credible evidence demonstrating that research findings have been translated into actual educational policy or practice.
6.Verification
The Organisation reserves the right to verify the claims and documentary evidence submitted by applicants.
The Award Committee may seek clarification or additional documentation wherever necessary. Submissions containing false, misleading or unverifiable claims may be disqualified.
If any material misrepresentation is subsequently discovered, the Organisation reserves the right to withdraw the Award or recognition.
7. Originality and Ethical Responsibility
The submitted work must be original and must comply with accepted standards of research ethics and academic integrity.
Plagiarised, fabricated, falsified or otherwise academically unethical work will not be considered.
Where the submitted paper is based on collaborative research, the applicant shall clearly indicate their contribution and provide appropriate acknowledgement of all contributors.
8. Selection and Award
The final decision regarding the Award shall rest with the duly constituted Award Selection Committee of the Organisation.
The decision of the Award Selection Committee shall be final.
The selected recipient(s) will receive the Award, together with such certificate, citation, and a cash award worth Rs 5000/.
